The Boating
Course provides in-depth boat operation and safety training.
* Tuesdays, 7 - 9:30pm for
12 weeks. You will experience the challenge of plotting and
navigation. Comprehensive student materials are provided. The
course includes significantly more information than is found in the short BoatPro/PCOC course and is an essential basis course for anyone planning on handling a vessel on the Great Lakes. Enroll
the family!
Exam for the "Boat Licence" is included. This course now includes
first-year membership in CPS. Full details

Boat Pro - Pleasure Craft Operator Card
("Boat
Licence")

A complete short course and exam in two evenings!
Note: we do not provide
courses during the summer months. However, we can arrange tests for
anyone wishing to challenge the PCOC exam after they have studied the
required material.
The deadline for ALL boaters to obtain the PCOC is
September 15, 2009
Clearly the
best of the PCOC seminars available, this highly acclaimed
seminar was one of the first to be accredited by the Canadian
Coast Guard. Crossing the border? CPS-ECP is one of the few
providers of safe boating courses that is approved by both the
Canadian Coast Guard and the U.S. National Association of
State Boating Law Administrators.

Navigating
with GPS
Complete in 4 evenings, plus exam
This
short course will introduce you to the versatile Global Positioning System
(GPS) receivers that are now common in everyday life. The new
Navigating With GPS (revision 4) is a complete re-write of the previous
course, with a new colour manual and an accompanying CD which includes,
amongst other things, a GPS/Chartplotter simulator. All of the students
receive a copy of the CD with their manual.
A national survey was recently
taken of Boating Course graduates. They were asked what courses they
wanted to take next. GPS was the most requested.

Fundamentals of
Weather - don't leave port without this course!

5 weeks 7 - 9:30 pm
This course
covers many aspects of the formation and behavior of the
weather around us. whereas meteorology (the study of weather) is quite
technical in nature, in contrast, “Fundamentals of Weather”
is
presented in a straightforward manner eliminating much of the
jargon.
Every boater intending to head out onto "big water", such as
the Great Lakes, needs this course!

The Weather
course is presented by Joni Alexander, JN, who says
of of her experience:
" I've been sailing, mainly on Lake Ontario, for almost 20
years and have been a CPS member since 1990. I have been
teaching as a part-time occupation for over 30 years and
teaching CPS courses-- Boating and Weather-- for about 5
years. My special interest is weather and the picture is me
checking on the weather observation buoy located between
Toronto and Niagara! "

DSC) - radio licence is mandatory for legal radio operation.

The Maritime Radio
course teaches emergency radio procedures, as well
as everyday operating techniques to you and your family. As
well, the course prepares you for the Restricted Operator
Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement examination. The ROC(M) is required to operate a VHF radio in Canada. 3
evenings including exam.

Extended Cruising - for the serious cruiser

Another course in 2009
The
“Extended Cruising” course helps establish the skills required
for you to seek distant shores. Course Chief Instructor
Wanita Gray is an accomplished Bluewater sailor with many
thousands of miles experience offshore. Individual course
sections are taught by several highly-experienced offshore
sailors.
